FILE NO. 00-OUROBOROS
Top Secret

THE OUROBOROS CASE

Recorded:
Office of Detective **** and Secretary Edny Verwen

"Hey... hey. Detective, Look at me. Stay with me, look at me. You're safe. You’re in the office. We… are in the office."
"You called me at the middle of the night, that you finally cracked the Case. You said you had it all: the suspect, the how, the motive. But when I arrived… You were screaming again, Detective."
I saw the pattern again... It never ends... Why?

I. PREPARATION

"I’ve cleared your desk. I’ll cross-reference our files and the ones from the precinct. Here is what you need to start."
  • Journal, two pages:
Empty. For now. I have to fill them. I need to try my best

  • Writing Utensil (A Pen, A Pencil, Etc.):
    I think, this will do.

  • Your favorite die (With an even-sided number):
    You feel so familiar… why?.

II. THE INVESTIGATION

"Okay, let's write it down, Detective.

Don't think, just write. Tell me the story, all of it. Whatever you remember…

I need you to fill those two pages completely.
Don’t second-guess yourself right now. If it’s in your head, put it on the paper, Detective.

Start at the top. What was the case name?"
The Requirements:

The Case: "First the file, Detective. What did you name it?"

The Suspects: "Who is involved? The files mention at least 3 Suspects. Who hurt you? Who lied to you? Write their names."

The How: "What did you find? In here seems to be files for at least 5 Clues. A gun? A letter? A smell? Something out of place?"

The Motive: "Any declaration? Interview? Interrogation? Alibi? Maybe something does not add up… Every Suspect must have at least 1 thing to say, right?

The Noise: "Fill the rest with your theories, diagrams, arrows, and hunches. Don't leave any free space. Connect everything, Detective."
It’s all pouring out. - Connect everything. - Leave no blank space.

III. THE AUDIT

"Okay... okay. Put the pen down. Breathe, I got you Detective.

Now we have to see what’s real. I’m going to go through the list with you. We’re going to test every Suspect, everything said and every Clue you wrote.

I’ll check the archives..."
(… My die is calling me… Every Suspect, Every Clue, Everything said…
R o l l … why?)
Roll Odd number (Illusion)

"No... no, Detective. I checked. That is from years ago. The precinct says it never existed. Our files say is just a replica. This is just a dead end…"

Action: Strike it out.

"Let it go. It’s a lie, It’s false. It’s gone... Don’t worry, Detective"
Roll Even number (Memory)

"Yes. I see it too. That’s real. The guys at the precinct have it as evidence, the report is just from an ago… that actually happened."

Action: Circle it.

"Hold onto that. That’s an anchor. That is the Detective I know…"

IV. THE CONCLUSION

"You feel better? Let’s look at the paper, Detective. It’s a mess, I know. But look at the circles.

Look at what survived…
The logic... it either holds... or it breaks.
Read the case, using only what survived.

• “Is there someone left to take the fall?” (Do I have a Suspect? Or maybe it was actually the victim themself?)
• “Is there a weapon? A how? A reason? A motive?” (Do the Clues connect to anything?)
• “Did someone tell the truth? Or said something important?” (Do they lied?)
• Does it make sense?"

Outcome A: Case Closed (Success)
"It holds together. The logic is sound. You have a suspect, a how, and a motive that wasn't a hallucination. You did it Detective... you actually did it. It fits. The logic holds water. The Case is solved, come on, we need to hurry before anything else happens!

Action: Write the solution at the bottom of the page, Detective. Close the book. We’re done. You can finally rest. Well done"

Outcome B: The Relapse (Failure) "You’re shaking your head. The evidence contradicts itself. You maybe have a motive but no suspect. Or maybe we do? We have a How and a weapon, but it is something that couldn't have been used.
Outcome A: The Relapse (Failure)

"You’re shaking your head. The evidence contradicts itself. You maybe have a motive but no suspect. Or maybe we do? We have a How and a weapon, but it is something that couldn't have been used.

It’s happening again. The headache is coming back… Why?
Hey... hey, look at me. Don't panic, Detective. It’s just your head… all in your head, it lied to you again.

Action: Tear the pages.

Do it now. Rip them up. We can't let these memories stay."

"I’ll make coffee. Take a breath. Here are two fresh sheets of paper. Let’s try again, Detective. I’m not leaving until you solve this... I know you can"
Outcome B: Case Closed (Success)

"It holds together. The logic is sound. You have a suspect, a how, and a motive that wasn't a hallucination. You did it Detective... you actually did it. It fits. The logic holds water. You solved the Case, come on, we need to hurry before anything else happens!

It holds... Yes, this is the case, this is the answer.

In the precinct they will ask for the file and the whole story again, better to write it down...

Action: Write the solution.

At the bottom of the page, next page, anywhere...

Detective. Close the book. We’re done. You can finally rest. Well done"

“I believe in you, Detective. You're the best I know. We’ll solve this eventually. Forever is a long time…”

Have fun! -The Wyvern's Den
"Detective, if you need a quick reminder, just follow these notes. Stay sane."
  1. The Writing Phase: Fill 2 physical pages of a journal. You MUST include at least 3 suspects their testimonies or declarations and at least 5 clues. Use the "Noise" (arrows and drawings) to link them.
  2. The Audit: Roll a d6 for every clue/suspect.
    • Odd: False Memory. Strike it out.
    • Even: Truth. Circle it.
  3. The Logic: Read the surviving (circled) text. If it still makes a coherent story, you "Awake" (Win). If the logic is broken, you "Relapse" (Fail).
  4. The Amnesia: On failure, you must destroy the pages.
The Block (Hard Mode)
“If we have to tear up the pages, promise me something? Don't use those names again next time. Your mind is stuck in a rut with them. Let's find new faces, promise me Detective?”
Denial (Journaling)
“When you cross something out, write a little note to yourself in the margin. Tell yourself why it can't be true, Detective.”
But why do I remember it?... Maybe… Maybe it has something to do with my memories… That’s right my own case… Why?
  1. My Memories: Every case you make, solved or not, take one Clue, Suspect or Testimony that was a False Memory.

    • The Ouroboros Case: Fill 2 pages with these false leads... Ask yourself why you remembered them
    • Cold Case: Maybe, I don't want to know the truth, ignore the clues, keep working. Even with the Amnesia, They need me.
